This purple prickly pear cactus is a great addition to drought tolerant, hillside and xeriscape gardens. Full sun to half day sun is ideal with well drained soil. Blue green round pads will turn purple in extreme weather bearing large red toothpick like thorns. Large yellow and red flowers appear in Spring attracting bees, butterflies and birds. Drought tolerant in the ground once established. Be sure not to over water in Winter. Frost hardy and fire resistant.
